This two-day, in-depth, technique-driven workshop will have metalsmiths begging for more metal clay and metal clay enthusiasts wanting to explore new possibilities in fabrication.
You’ll join master instructor and goldsmith Julie Sanford as she shares tips and tricks using traditional metal fabrication and metal clay components together, taking your skills and imagination to a whole new level. You’ll be introduced to the properties of metal clay and its history as you design and create a dramatic necklace around a focal stone. Techniques in mold making, metal clay casting, wet and dry clay finishing, clay firing, gold overlay, layout and design, custom prong fabrication, multi-step soldering, stone setting, chain making, and professional finishing will all be covered in this comprehensive metals workshop. Students will be able to explore creative new design possibilities and discover ways to use the combined techniques of metal clay and metal fabrication to develop their personal style and influence their current body of work.
Class will meet 10am-5pm on Friday and Saturday.
